                                                               THE JOURNEY

Manikandan   Kizhakoot.

Ushering in a beam of light in the year 1970, born into the illustrious artisan family of Kizhakoot in Cheru (Trichur) was Manikandan, the sole son of a  stalwart  Vishwakarma - Manikkan Asary and Lakshmi.

Upon accomplishing formal schooling at Chittoor Narayanan Namboodirippad Boys’ High School, Cherpu, Manikantan  followed it up by a stint at the renowned Mahatma  Gandhi Memorial      College, Ernakulam.   Due to father’s deteriorating health and not so encouraging economic scenario at home,  had to  take up a job in 1987 through 1990 in  Ernakulam.

Being a member of the highly gifted Kizhakoot  family, it was only natural for Manikantan to be interested in all forms of arts,  with special emphasis on Story Writing, Drawing, Music and such other  forms of fine arts right from a tender age.

In the year 1991, took up an assignment abroad in Muscat, engaged in wood carving activity which concluded in 1995.    Though the hours in the middle east were immersed in creation of  artistry on wood for the  Arabs,  during the rare spare hours in the desert sands of Muscat   Manikantan  dabbled in story writing.    After returning from Muscat in the year 1995, Manikantan came up a winner with his short story, “Arayaal”  in the competition organized by Matrubhoomi Study Circle.  Subsequent to Arayaal, went on to win some more accolades in story writings organized by various organisations.

After taking up employment in 1987,  just to keep the creative juices flowing and to be in touch with the genetic surge of  fine arts,  felt the need to join the local devotional troupe under the auspicious of Shri Dharmashashtha temple, and have since been singing at various levels and platforms.

During this period was also actively involved in bringing out the much accepted & widely read local newsletter, ‘Kaavya Rashmi’, published by the  Cherpu Panchayat.

In the year 2001, vigorously pursued Graphic Designing in Computer and successfully completed the course  as well.  Also, had distinct opportunity of starting a Graphic Design school for youngsters under the name of ‘U for U’.

With all this backdrop, in 2005, designed a web site by name   ‘ www.artmajeur.com/woodesigns ’  and, through this medium has been trying to reach out to art-loving customers of India for all their customized wood carving needs and such other creations.   It would also be apt to mention here that many customers from the length and breadth of India have been patrons of Laxmisri and continue to be a source of inspiration for Manikantan and his creations.

Just to give you a brief introduction,   Laxmisri  is actively involved in the manufacture of  need-based &  customised creative  wood-work,  including  carving,  joinery and such other  specialized activities.    To have a glimpse of  Laxmisri activities,  you may please visit our website    www.artmajeur.com/woodesigns.

Alongwith mother - Lakshmi, wife – Sarita and son – Adhwaith Krishna, Manikantan lives in his age old and humble ancestral home at :-
